Yellow Canvas – Children’s Art Exhibition 2024

A non commercial group art exhibition showcasing the works of about 100 school children from preschool to 12^th standard have been displayed at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Bajaj Bhavan, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400 021 from 12^th to 14^th April, 2024 between 11 am to 7 pm. This is the 4^th edition of group art exhibitions coordinated by Mr. Sohan Kumar Choudhary who is himself an artist having passed B.F.A. from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. This exhibition is the first of its kind to be held in Mumbai with a participation of about 100 students from Mumbai and other States of India, Singapore, USA, Israel, Germany, Netherland, U.K., U.A.E., Myanmar, Belgium, Hong Kong. Students are exhibiting artworks made in different mediums as in Acrylic, Charcoal, Pen & Ink, Mixed Media, Oil pastel, soft pastel & watercolour etc has been showcased in the exhibition and there will be free entry for this Art exhibition.

This show was inaugurated on 12^th April 2024 by Honourable Guests Dolly Thakore –  Indian Theatre Actress, casting director and Media & Communication Personality, Mrs. Manju Lodha  – Chairperson Lodha Foundation, Poet, Philanthropist, Member of Censor Board & Vice President of Maharashtra Hindi Sahitya Akadami, Mr. S. P. Ahuja –  President- All INDIA Anti Terrorist Front Mumbai,  Dr. Soma Ghosh – Classical, Folk & Ghazal Singer, Recipient of the prestigious ‘Padma Shri ‘ Award in 2016, by Indian Government, Dr. Aneel Murarka –  Industrialist & Indian Philanthropist, Mr. Ashwin Bangera – National Promotion Head KOKUYO CAMLIN LTD., Mr. Sooraj Thapar – Actor, has done more than 700 theatre, about 25 TVCs, & more than 75 Television Serials,        Moni Kundu – Social media influencer, Meesha Gupta –  South Asian art consultant & Gallerist (London & Bombay),  Markand Soni –  Actor, Singer & song writer. Has done more than 300 TVCs, 6 Television shows & 3 Movies (Brahmastra – most recent), Varun Buddhadev – Actor, he has won The Best Child Actor Award From The Honourable President Of India For His Film Tulsidas Junior his 3 Films releasing In 2024, Delisha Chutani – Indian Child artist & kids influencer.

Sohan Kumar Choudhary is the founder of Yellow Canvas which is a link between aspiring artists and their educator as well as the prospective art collectors. Sohan Kumar Choudhary conducts many art activities related to art such as Art Classes, Workshops, Art shows, Camps for all age groups etc. thereby promoting the artists to paint in various mediums and imaginations along with the introduction of Indian folk art such as Warli paintings, Madhubani paintings and Gond Art to connect overseas students/children with the nuances of Indian Culture & Art heritage as well as traditional Indian Art in order to encourage young talent.

YELLOW CANVAS 2024  A Children’s Art Exhibition At Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery

After the British Raj, India experienced profound transformations, yet the art education system in schools remained entrenched in traditional paradigms. Despite centuries of artists asserting their individuality, the Indian school system persists in promoting a specific style of art, echoing Western academic conventions.

Renowned artist Anita Goel challenges this status quo with her upcoming solo exhibition, Avataran. Scheduled to unveil on February 4, Goel seeks to revolutionise the prevailing artistic norms entrenched within Indian educational institutions.

“The school art system perpetuates undistinguished artworks, stifling creativity,” remarks Anita Goel. “My aim is to disrupt this homogeneity and redefine contemporary Indian art.”

Anita Goel’s artistic vision transcends conventional boundaries. Her creations extend beyond the confines of the canvas, exploring the latent potential of painting tools, particularly the use of painting knives. Embracing the ethos of abstract expressionism, Goel eschews the notion that a painting must convey a specific message or narrative, prioritising instead the interplay of form and medium.

At the heart of Goel’s oeuvre lies a bold exploration of form, colour, and texture. Each piece beckons viewers to delve deeper, guided by recurring avian motifs—an homage to her previous series, Udaan, and a prelude to Avataran. The avian imagery serves as a narrative thread, inviting observers to uncover new perspectives with each glance.

Through the deliberate selection of irregularly shaped canvases and varying thicknesses, Goel creates a sense of three-dimensionality within the confines of a flat surface. The textured layers of knifed paint engage with the canvas’s nuanced topography, compelling viewers to engage with the work on multiple levels.

भारत में ब्रिटिश राज की समाप्ति के बाद देश में कई तरह के आमूलचूल परिवर्तन हुए मगर कहीं ना कहीं हमारी शिक्शा व्यवस्था पर पुरातनपंथी सोच अब भी हावी है. यूं तो सदियों से तमाम कलाकार अपनी कला के माध्यम से अपनी निजता का परिचय देते आ रहे हैं मगर इसके बावजूद कला की शिक्षा देने वाले

स्कूलों पर आज भी पाश्चात्य देशों का प्रभाव देखने को मिलता है जो एक ख़ास तरह की कला को बढ़ावा देते नज़र आते हैं.

उल्लेखनीय है कि जानी-मानी आर्टिस्ट अनीता गोयल ने पाश्चात्य कला के प्रभाव को अपने सोलो कला प्रदर्शनी ‘अवतरण’ के ज़रिए चुनौती पेश करने की कोशिश की है. इस कला प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन 4 फ़रवरी से किया जा रहा है जिसके माध्यम से अनीता गोयल आज की शैक्षणिक व्यवस्था को बदलने और कला के क्षेत्र में एक क्रांतिकारी बदलाव लाने की उम्मीद रखती हैं.

वे कहती हैं, “कला संबंधी स्कूल व्यवस्था ना तो उत्कृष्टता को बढ़ावा देती है और न ही रचनात्मकता को.” वे आगे कहती हैं, “मैं इस यथास्थितवाद में बदलाव लाना चाहती हूं और समसामायिक भारतीय कला को पुनर्भाषित करना चाहती हूं.”

अनीता गोयल की दूरदृष्टि कुछ ऐसी है कि वो कला की किसी भी सीमा से परे है. उनकी कलाकृतियां सिर्फ़ कैनवस तक सिमटी नहीं होती हैं. वे पेटिंग्स टूल्स व पेटिंग्स नाइव्स का बख़ूबी इस्तेमाल करना जानती हैं. कला के अमूर्त स्वरूप में महारत रखने वाली अनीता गोयल कला द्वारा किसी विशिष्ट तरह के संदेश देने के ख़्याल से इत्तेफ़ाक नहीं रखती हैं और इसकी बजाय वे स्वरूप व उसके माध्यम के अंतर-संबंधों को अधिक तवज्जो देती हैं.

उल्लेखनीय है कि अनीता गोयल अपनी कला में स्वरूप, रंग और टेक्सचर को बहुत महत्व देती हैं. उनकी कलाकृतियों में पक्षी से प्रेरित आकृतियां देखी जा सकती हैं और इसकी झलक उनकी पिछली श्रृंखला ‘उड़ान’ और आने वाली श्रृंखला ‘अवतरण’ में नज़र आती है. पक्षियों से प्रेरित उनकी कलाकृतियां एक ऐसा आभास उत्पन्न करती हैं जो नये-नये आयामों को‌ महसूस करने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं.

ग़ौरतलब है कि अनीता गोयल हमेशा से ही एक प्रकार के नहीं बल्कि विविध आकार और‌ प्रकार  के कैनवस का चयन करने में यकीन करती आई हैं जिसके ज़रिए वे सपाट सतह पर भी त्रिआयामी कला का आभास करानेवाली कलाकृतियां पेश करती आई हैं. वे नाइफ़ पेंट के तमाम टेक्सचर्ड सतहों के इस्तेमाल से कैनवस की स्थालकृति को विभिन्न स्तर पर एक आकर्षक कलाकृति में तब्दील करने में माहिर हैं.

अनीता गोयल की एकांकी कला प्रदर्शनी ‘अवतरण’ 4 फरवरी से

ब्रिटीश भारतातून गेल्यानंतर भारतामध्ये अनेक महत्वपूर्ण बदल झाले, परंतु शाळांमधील कला शिक्षण मात्र त्याच पारंपरिक ब्रिटिश राजवटीतीलच राहिले असे म्हटले तर चूक ठरणार नाही. भारतातील शाळांमध्ये कला प्रशिक्षण पाश्चात्य पद्धतीने शिकवले जात असतानाही, गेल्या शतकभरात भारतातील अनेक चित्रकारांनी स्वतःचे वेगळे अस्तित्व निर्माण केले.

प्रख्यात चित्रकार अनिता गोयल याच पाश्चात्य शिक्षण पद्धतीला आव्हान दे्ण्यासाठी स्वतःचे सोलो चित्रप्रदर्शन ‘अवतरण’ भरवत आहेत. ४ फेब्रुवारी रोजी अनावरण होणाऱ्या या प्रदर्शनातून अनिता गोयल भारतीय शैक्षणिक संस्थांमध्ये प्रचलित कलात्मक नियमांमध्ये क्रांती घडवून आणण्याचा प्रयत्न करणार आहेत.

अनिता गोयल आपल्या प्रदर्शनाबाबत बोलताना म्हणाल्या, “शाळांमधील कला शिक्षण पद्धत कलाकारांची सर्जनशीलता दाबून ठेवत अविभाज्य कलाकृतींना कायम ठेवते, हा एकजीनसीपणा तोडून समकालीन भारतीय कलेची नव्याने व्याख्या करणे हे माझे उद्दिष्ट आहे.”

अनिता गोयल यांची कलात्मक दृष्टी परंपरागत सीमा ओलांडणारी आहे. त्या त्यांची निर्मिती साचेबद्ध कॅनव्हासच्या मर्यादेपलीकडे विस्तारणारी आहे. त्या पेंटिंगच्या आधुनिक साधनांचा अवलंब करतात, विशेषतः पेंटिंग चाकूचा वापर त्या खूपच उत्कृष्टपणे करतात. चित्रकलेने विशिष्ट संदेश किंवा कथन व्यक्त करण्याऐवजी फॉर्म आणि माध्यमाच्या परस्परसंवादाला प्राधान्य दिले पाहिजे. असे अनिता गोयल यांच मत आहे.

अनिता गोयल यांच्या कल्पनेच्या केंद्रस्थानी फॉर्म, रंग आणि पोत यांचा अनोखा मिलाफ करण्यात आलेला असतो. त्यांचे प्रत्येक चित्र कलेच्या आस्वादकांना चित्र सखोल जाणून घेण्यास प्रेरित करतो.  अनिता गोयल यांचे मागील चित्र प्रदर्शन उडान ला पुढे घेऊन जाणारे अवतरण चित्र प्रदर्शन आहे.  कलादर्दींनी येऊन त्यांच्या या नव्या  दृष्टीकोनाची माहिती घ्यावी असा त्यांचा प्रयत्न आहे. आणि त्यामुळेच त्यांच्या कला प्रदर्शनाला कलादर्दींनी यावे असे आवाहन अनिता गोयल करीत आहेत.

वेगवेगळ्या जाडीचे आणि आकाराचे कॅनव्हास अनिता गोयल निवडतात आणि त्यातून सपाट पृष्ठभागावर त्रिमितीय कलाकृती निर्माण करतात. त्यांच्या कलाकृतीवर चाकूने रंग भरलेले असतात. त्यामुळेच कलादर्दींना त्यांचे चित्र अनेक स्तरांवर असल्याचे भासते.

वरळी येथील जोलीज येथे 4 फेब्रुवारी रोजी दुपारी १२ वाजता अवतरण या चित्र प्रदर्शनाला सुरुवात होणार असून हे चित्र प्रदर्शन येण्यासाठी अनिता गोयल सगळ्यांना आमंत्रित करीत आहेत. कलादर्दींना समकालीन भारतीय कलेच्या क्षेत्रातून परिवर्तनशील प्रवासाचा अनुभव देणारे असे हे चित्र प्रदर्शन असणार आहे.

Meditation – Art An Instrument

Recent work of a versatile renowned contemporary artist, Sanjay Sable in Acrylic colours on canvas has been displayed in a solo art exhibition in Jehangir Art Gallery, AC – 2, M.G. Road, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai 400 001 from 23 to 29 January 2024. This exhibition will reveal the outcome of the painstaking efforts taken by the artist to incorporate subtle nuances of Meditation – as an instrument in his creative endeavours in order to enlighten the viewers with newer perspectives of the thematic peculiarities in the relevant arenas of visual fine arts. This is his 5^th solo art exhibition in Jehangir Art Gallery.

This show was inaugurated on 23^rd January 2024 by Chief Guest Mr. Vishwanath Sabale Dean of Sir J.J. School of Art in the presence of Mr. Chandrashekhar Sudhakar Deshmukh Sectional Engineer, High Court Section, P.W.D. Mumbai. Guest of Honour  Mumbai, Mrs. Hina Bhatt Founder/Director: Hina Bhatt Art Ventires / Hina Bhatt Art Foundation, Nitin Jadia Art Collector among others.

Sanjay Sable hails from Osmanabad (now called Dharashiva).  He had his art education at ChitrakalaMahavidyalayaLatur, Abhinava Kala Mahavidyalay. Pune and Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai. He has been a faculty member at ChitrakalaMahavidyalay, Nashik since 2003. He has showcased his earlier thematic works in various art galleries at Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Alibaug, Chandigarh, Nashik, Kolkata, Aurangabad etc., and received overwhelming public response and appreciations for his work.  He is a proud recipient of several prizes, awards and appreciations from prestigious art promotional institutions at Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Dhule, Amritsar, Ratnagiri etc.  His works are in proud collection of many renowned art collectors in India and abroad.  An active participant in several art camps, workshops organised by reputed art promotional institutions all over the country, he has also showcased his thematic work in some International art exhibitions at Dubai, Bangladesh, Washington – USA etc., and earned warm public appreciations from the art fraternity for his thematic work.  He has presented 54 works in this exhibition for public viewing and the largest sizes of artworks in this show are of 15ft x 4.5 ft and 12ft x 6ft.

The present series in Acrylic colours on canvas illustrate s his transformative thematic perceptions on Meditation – Art An Instrument in the unique expressive style and techniques. He has assimilated various transformations in his style and techniques during the experimentations at different stages and ultimately incorporated their transformed versions in his work in order to render perfection in visual perspectives and various forms of ingredients to accommodate the desired visual effects in them. As a result, his works in these norms and perspectives do represent his newer aesthetic prerogative and    conceptualization alongwith the technical excellence achieved in artistically and aesthetically adorning the works with desired visual parameters in the apt perspectives of fine art.  His paintings reveal an outcome of the total human involvement in his work with free and relaxed mind that is totally unbiased and unprejudised. The fruit of meditation of an artist in achieving unbiased results and outcomes from his endeavours bear true testimony to his sincerity, total dedication to work and an inherent urge to adorn the outcomes with the desired perspectives of divine effects of sublimity, rhythm and ecstasy in the apt arenas of visual fine arts.  With these instruments of meditation along with an experience of about 2 decades in rendering his yeomen services propagation of visual fine arts, Sanjay Sable has created and presented this unique series of artwork that truly illustrates his complete command over the medium and techniques used as well as his positive and optimistic as well as rational approach to incorporate numerous supportive ingredients on a divine and spiritual plane in the work so as to enhance its visual glory and picturesqueness in the desired perspectives.

All works in this series in abstract forms reveal his sound and firm mindset and an eagerness to enlighten all with the newer perspectives of his transformative forms of art work which have the peculiar effect of divine sublimity, eternity and rhythmic ecstasy in them at strategic arenas.

“The Legacy” An Exhibition of Photographs by veteran photojournalist Mukesh Parpiani

Legendary photojournalist Mukesh Parpiani’s need to chronicle the unusual began at a very young age when he first began to help his brother. His elder brother who was fascinated by photography, had a darkroom at home, and Mukesh used to wash his prints. Gradually, he began to work towards achieving this dream. He enrolled at the Pillai School of Photography (1969-1970), after which, he worked in wedding and travel photography. During this brief stint, he realised that his city has so many intermingled narratives to offer, whose ever-evolving nature is simply waiting to be chronicled.

In 1981, Russi Karanjia, the Editor of The Daily, a morning newspaper in Bombay, offered him a job as their photographer.At The Daily, Parpiani photographed many political leaders and celebrities. Due to this, he became a familiar name in the journalism fraternity. Viveck Goenka, the Chairman and Managing Director of The Indian Express, who had been following Parpiani’s work and career, saw potential in his vision. Eventually, he decided to recruit Parpiani as the photo editor of The Indian Express’ seventeen editions. During his time there, he covered historical events of significance nationally and internationally.Mid-Day, an afternoon tabloid, who noticed Parpiani’s work as a photojournalist and editor, decided to offer him a job as the photo editor. It was the beginning of many things – the turn of the century as well as the tectonic shift of photographic technologies. Tariq Ansari, the Managing Director of the newspaper, gave Parpiani the liberty to develop the department as he needed. Parpiani, upon recognising the dawn of DSLRs, requested Ansari to acquire them for the photo department. Under his tutelage, many young individuals became renowned documentary photographers and photojournalists.

Parpiani curated his first photo exhibition in March 1989 at Piramal Art Gallery of NCPA. His penchant for curating photography exhibition gave him the opportunity to continue even after his retirement at the age of 58.

In 2009, Khushroo Suntook, Chairman of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), offered him to head the Piramal Art Gallery. Suntook had been familiar with Parpiani’s work and entrusted him with the running of the gallery. For 14 years, Parpiani has single-handedly nurtured and educated the next generation of photographers. He has organised over 250 talks, workshops, exhibitions, and seminars to disseminate photography.

Parpiani has touched countless lives with his photographs while reforming countless more as a mentor. His strengths and humanity lie in his ability to mould the way we perceive Bombay, while his sensitivity and perceptiveness conquer the hearts of those fortunate individuals who have, knowingly or coincidentally, crossed paths with him.

Retrospective Show – 101th Solo Art Exhibition

When we first look at Yashwant Shriwadkar’s painting, we are drawn to a vibrant, expansive canvas, that capture the fleeting light and ever-changing atmosphere in nature. The tactile strokes play with the viewer’s senses, delivering an effect of spontaneity and effortlessness while masking carefully constructed compositions. Each time you look at his canvas, a new feature appears, as if purposefully hidden by the artist under the masterfully blended colors. Deep yellow flashed in the night, pastel blue fading into midday, and pink melting in the morning sky.

Shirwadkar perceived our world quite differently. For him, the seemingly mundane sights became compelling experiences,as a cascading waterfall or a majestic mountain peak. He simply painted the things he saw and felt, surrendering to the experiences and situations of the moment. He had no interest in depicting history, mythology, or the lives of great individuals. Instead, he attempted to capture how a landscape or an object appeared to him at a particular instant. Varanasi held a special fascination for him, leading to more than 18 visits to the mystical city. The gentle waters of the Ganges, the boat rides, the morning worship at the Ghats, as well as the majestic architecture has been aptly arrested by the artist. His artistic journey also encompassed landscapes from Kerala, Rajasthan, Kashmir, and Goa, along with large commission canvases like Hyde Park and the Gateway of India.

Shirwadkar’s approach of using a palette knife and building up layers in oil-on-canvas aligns with the textural and vibrant qualities often associated with impressionistic art. It’s a technique that can evoke a sense of movement and atmosphere in landscape paintings. Each layer was painted on top of the previous without waiting for the earlier layer to dry completely. Rather than worrying about the technical accuracy of the painting, he went with the flow of his mood and created a sense of movement in the work. Seeing him work on the colors with palette knife is a sight to behold, almost beyond words to describe. The colors seemed to merge one into another, slowly shifting: yellow to orange and then red, and at times blue slowly turned into green and vice versa.

Color and light played a profound role in Shriwadkar’s painting process. Before painting on the canvas, he made several sketches on site, in the open, using sunlight as the only source of light. By using low chroma variations and rendering shadows in color, the artist skillfully captured the fleeting nuances of natural light.He also tried to emphasize the passage of time in his works. The paint was left unmixed, producing a contrast between strokes that didn’t blend completely on the canvas but appeared so to the eye. The deliberate choice to forgo intricate details in favor of bold paint strokes added to the overall impact of portraying the essence of the subject.

Shirwadkar’s oil-on-canvases garnered widespread acclaim, resonating not just with Indian audiences but captivating hearts globally. He received invitations to prestigious international platforms, such as sponsored exhibitions and notable events like the 42nd Anniversary Leadership Summit in Washington in 2017, showcasing the artist’s recognition on a global scale. His path in visual art, however faced several obstacles, stemming from initial resistance within his family against pursuing a career in the fine arts. Undeterred by opposition, his passion for painting prevailed, leading him to stand firm on his decision despite strong familial objections. Eventually, Shirwadkarwent on to study at the renowned Sir J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai, marking a crucial step in his artistic journey.

Creating art was a form of Sadhana—a daily practice, for the artist. He painted regularly, shaping a distinctive style that involved the use of a palette knife and occasionally unconventional mediums such as a shaving blade. Even after achievingmastery over his technique, he continued to paint with awareness, discipline and intention of growth. Like a spiritual practitioner (sadhaka) heworked to achieve control over ego, connect deeper, and realign with his’s inner self.

Spanning over 45 years, Shirwadkar’s prolific artistic career was marked by an impressive legacy of around 100 solo exhibitions and over 260 group shows both in India and internationally. Through this extensive body of work, he not only established a prosperous art career but also earned a prominent reputation in the art world before his passing in 2020.The enduring allure of his works, continue to generate curiosity and awe in the younger generations of artists as well as viewers.

It is interesting to note that in his inaugural solo exhibition in 1977, Shirwadkar showcased watercolorseascapes. Employing a technique of blending watercolors to achieve a bleed and bloom effect, he crafted misty seascapes with soft, faded edges. Carefully playing with light contrast, he diluted and highlighted specific areas while leaving others dry, inviting light into the artwork. This technique skillfully evoked a vaporous atmosphere, adding a unique dimension to his early watercolors.

Shirwadkar’s approach to painting landscapes went beyond mere depictions of sites or anonymous figures. His focus delved into capturing the enveloping warmth and color of sunlight, not merely the physical surroundings. His art aimed to encapsulate the transformative impact of sunlight on specific moments, highlighting the soul of the scene and its evolution through time and atmospheric changes.

RAOSAHEB GURAV ——– A LEGENDARY ARTIST

Artist Raosaheb Gurav completed his diploma in Fine Arts from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune in 1970 and thereafter he became an Art master. He worked as a Master of Fine Arts in the same institute and after 40 years of service, he retired as a Principal of Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pashan, Pune.

He is an artist who is evergreen and always engrossed in his work,irrespective of the amount of work or his age. Once again he is exhibiting his art works ‘A Journey through colours’  at a very prestigious venue Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chairman of Delta Corp Limited –Mr Jaydev Mody on 3^rd January.

From projects like “Hanuman” and “Sherlock Holmes” to studios such as “Silvertune,” “Crest,” and “Illusion” in Mumbai, as well as working on serials like “King” through “Escortoon” in Delhi, Patil has left an imprint in the animation industry.

Focusing solely on the canvas, Patil’s art became a symphony of colours, captivating art lovers globally, In 2019, at the ‘Olympia Art’ International Competition, India, led by Patil, secured first place and a gold medal in ‘Composition and Landscape,’ triumphing over Russia.

Since 2007, Patil has dedicated his full time to the world of art. He is an active member of Sanskar Bharati organization. S. Rane, born in Talera (Maharashtra) in 1952, presents a collection that delves into the depths of his subconscious, unearthing human forms with a rustic quality. Pratibha Wagh’s Enchanting Canvases

An artist of any discipline first sees the idea manifest in his mind and then begins his expression of it. Mrs. Pratibha Wagh celebrates nature in her mind before giving it a form to be enjoyed by its beholders. Her paintings of nature are resplendent with the rich influences of Madhubani, Chitrakathi and Indian miniature paintings. The resultant style inherently demands a rather difficult merger of detailing and precision while the size of her canvas doesn’t allow her the liberty of being artistically vague, it does insist upon sharp precision of strokes that are at once bold and light. Mrs. Wagh manages this tightrope walk with consummate ease. Her paintings give you a distinctly joyous experience of a dreamlike state, and their old world. The message in her paintings is loud and clear. Unless man loves and respects  nature, he has no right to its beauty and benevolence.

Jyotsna Sonavane: A Journey Inward

Jyotsna Sonavane describes her artistic journey as an inward exploration for outward expressions. Having received numerous awards and accolades since his student days, Kumavat’s distinctive approach has garnered attention on both national and international stages. At the heart of his narrative lies the story of Matsyagandha and her lover, brought to life through intricate details and a dreamlike backdrop. While proficient in acrylic on canvas and ink on paper, Kumavat has pioneered a unique style in line art, favoring suggestive forms over realistic representation. The interplay of various drawing forms, content, and technique culminates in a breathtaking body of work.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Chandrashekhar Shravan Kumavat also imparts his knowledge and expertise as a lecturer at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in Pune. In his own words, “A spontaneous expression of feelings through a certain medium can be called ART.” Kumavat draws parallels between an artist’s creative process and the natural world, emphasizing the significance of elements such as Light, Color, Space, Rhythm, and Movement. Each stroke of the brush or pen not only conveys the artist’s ideas but also reflects their inner state to the external world, contributing to the evolution of cultural perspectives.

Captivating Exhibition Unveils Diverse Artistic Brilliance in Mumbai

Art enthusiasts and aficionados are in for a treat as the Nehru Centre Art Gallery in Mumbai prepares to host a mesmerizing exhibition featuring the collective brilliance of six distinguished artists from Bengal.

Running from October 31 to November 6th, this showcase promises to transcend boundaries and seamlessly intertwine narratives through a diverse range of techniques and inspirations. Each artist brings forth a unique perspective, weaving a vivid tapestry of creativity that promises to captivate all who enter. 

Arup Kumar Das: Mr. Arup’s work interest has drawn inspiration particularly from freedom, but not limited to the visual area. Architecture also influences his work. The main admiration is architectural inputs in his work. Curvilinear shape/line has always been a critical element in Arup’s work. It is a simplification of many elements relevant to his expression: the feminine curve, an opening, an architectural element, the line that traces a graph or as part of the organic world. The nuances and expressive quality of the curve is explored in printmaking and drawing, and informs all of his work. Arup Das currently teaches in Applied art Dept at Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta.

Arun Paul:  Arun Paul got his BVA & MVA degree in Textile Design from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, in the year 1997 and 2000. He also teaches there. His works are mostly composed with various forms and colour patches. Motifs and solid type background contrasting the whole construction of his compositions.

Mrinmoy Das: Mrinmoy Das likes to express all things that have to do with fabric. His passion is fabric dyeing, using natural and commercial dyes and also painting, stamping, screen printing, and also his work is fabric quilting, manipulating along with threads and other embellishment that bring life and contrast to the wall hangings. In his journey, Mrinmoy is practicing as Fiber Artist and presently teaching in Textile Design at Govt College of Art & Craft, Calcutta. He became passionate about studying weaving, dyeing, and printing and embroideries techniques.

Suman Kumar Pal: Graduated from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta in 1992 and Post Graduated from Rabindra Bharati University in the subject of Painting. Suman Kumar Pal a Contemporary Mural Artist, with various prestigious awards, presently teaching in his own college. His murals depict the suburban culture and its complexities. The Architectural buildings are the prototypes of the diverse mentality with commonalities.

Pradip Mondal: Nature is the main composition of Pradip Mondal’s sculptures. He has BVA and MVA in Modelling and Sculpture from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, where he teaches also. His sculptures represent the contouring base lines of nature. The linear metallic compositions are just simple in nature to express the transparency in objects of this phenomenal world.  The lightness of heavy metal compositionally completes the surroundings.

Partha Protim Gayen: Partha’s works are statements about history & our relation with Mother Nature. The connectivity of society & nature is an important core thing of these creations. His environmentally concerned attempt reminds us that contemporary art has a role to play in making sense of the world & doing it by reviving the belief that everything we are accessing or developing, should actually for the betterment of Mother Nature. Completing his BVA and MVA in Modelling and Sculpture from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, Partha currently teaches in his own college. He has a MFA in Art History and Aesthetics from  M.S.U. Baroda.

Giliyal Jayaram Bhat has been creating art for nearly four decades as industrialist and artist; and his style, approach and zest for the craft has evolved from portraits and landscapes that reflected formal training to intense abstraction of landscapes and moods that depict compositions of uninhibited freedom letting the elements interact within themselves in the pictorial plane, creating balances, imbalances, breathing spaces and a burgeoning of possibilities for viewer involvement and interpretation. The artist seems to effortlessly create ‘industrial poetry’ on surfaces, his works revealing the beauty hidden within the man-made, industrial environments, making us reconsider our perception of landscapes. In his latest series, one can observe the negative spaces being flipped to form relevant subjects that beckon the viewer’s time, easing them in and leaving remnants of peace in the viewer. He presents a world which reflects our inner world landscapes in a language of the formless from his lived experiences and observations.

Dr. Shivaprakash, with his vast experience in art, education and travel explores the intimate connection between portraiture and the creative process by incorporating live demonstrations of art-making alongside a stunning collection of portraits. His experience in the fisheries department is reflected in his artworks that show an intersection of contemporary art and the animal kingdom. This collection showcases a diverse range of artistic perspectives and techniques, offering viewers a unique glimpse into the complex relationship between humans and animals in our rapidly changing world. It is a testament to the enduring allure of capturing the human spirit on canvas and the ever-evolving nature of artistic expression.

Microbiologist, professor and self-taught artist, Jayashri Sharma lights up her canvases with delightfully moving figurative pieces that carry softness of the divine feminine in her works. Female figurative paintings have a rich history and continue to be a dynamic and evolving genre within the art world. Jayashri’s works aims to celebrate the diversity, complexity, and resilience of women through the lens of art. The Embassy of Peru in India is set to immerse visitors in the rich cultural tapestry of the Andean region with its upcoming exhibition dedicated to the iconic Pucará Bull, scheduled to be inaugurated this Tuesday, October 17th, at the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery in Nariman Point, Mumbai. This unique showcase promises to be a captivating exploration of the Peruvian artistry and heritage.

On the auspicious day of October 17, 2023, the grandeur of the show was officially unveiled under the gracious presence of Ms. Sunaina Kejriwal, the esteemed Director of Kamalnayan Bajaj Hall & Art Gallery. The event was graced by the distinguished presence of eminent Consul Generals. Among them were Mr. Edy Wardoyo, the Consul General of Indonesia,  Mr. Aleksander Danda, the Consul General of Poland, Switzerland’s Consul Generals, Mr. Martin Maier. Additionally, the event saw the honourable presence of Mr. Feroz Dubash and Mr. Milind Hardas, who was there to represent the esteemed Protocol of the Government of Maharashtra. The exhibition, which has already toured many countries around the world, is an important part of the celebrations of the 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India. The Pucará Bull, an emblematic symbol deeply rooted in Peru’s history, represents more than just an artistic masterpiece; it is a compelling emblem of protection, fertility and prosperity. This beautiful ceramic originates from the small town of Pucará in southern Peru, where local artisans have been crafting these ceramic sculptures for generations. The bulls, adorned with vibrant and intricate designs, traditionally stand guard on rooftops and entrances, warding off evil spirits and bestowing blessings upon the household.

Mumbaikars will be able to appreciate some of the finest of these beautiful ceramics and embark on a journey to the heart of the Andes between October 17th and 27^th. IDENTITY

In a celebration of artistic prowess and cultural significance, three  contemporary artists – Asif Sharief Shaikh, Zakir Husain Tanha and Ram Kumbhar – have come together to present the ‘Identity’ Art Group Exhibition. The event, a testament to their collective dedication to the world of art, is being held at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.

The show was inaugurated on 19^th September 2023 by Mr. Shiv Chanana (Sr. VP at Super Cassettes Industries Ltd), Nasreen Khan Chanana, Shashi Jalan(Owner – Gallery Art Address), Rishiraj Sethi (Director – Aura art gallery), Prakash Bhise(Eminent Artist) in the presence of many art lovers, connoisseurs, dignitaries and many others.

Preparations for the exhibition have coincided with the onset of the Ganesh festival, reflecting a spirit of creativity and artistic expression that resonates throughout the city. Lord Ganesha, revered as the patron of intellect and wisdom, is emblematic of human advancement and progress in intelligence.

Asif Sharief Shaikh –

He had his art education at Vasai Vikasini’s college of visual arts, Mumbai followed by an advanced course at L.S. Raheja School of Arts, Bandra, Mumbai. He earlier showcased his works under the series ‘Joy of life ‘Atmakhoj’ and others in many solo and group art shows in reputed art galleries at Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi, Ujjain, Dubai, Bhubaneshwar etc and got good response for his thematic presentations. He also took part in many art camps, workshops, demonstrations and received several awards and recognitions from leading art promotional institutions of global and international reputations. His works are in the proud collection of many leading art collectors and promotional institutions.

He mostly works in Acrylic colours on canvas, He has been deeply obsessed by Nature & its wonders in different seasons, panorama of nature, his real life experiences and their memoirs. His drawings showcase the visual impressions/ memories that shape his idiom. They illustrate inspirations from the rustic earthy life from rural Maharashtra. He distills the recognizable iconic images into basic elements. So his ethereal language is born out of ephemeral impressions of the wavering and splitting sun rays on water, the cattle walks on dusty roads and hovering twilight. A deep obsession  with leaves, vivid trees and their trunks, plants, moss gathered on wet  walls, rustic steel plates stones of vivid sizes, earth and their everlasting impact on his sensitive mind alongwith the impression of their close interactions, marvellous associations with the surroundings through fragrance/ aroma spread everywhere form various colourful flowers, petals etc find a prominent place in his works. Also, he is fascinated by their affectionate proximity and the resulting happiness or pleasantness that originates from such iconic ingredients complemented by the brightness of sunlight, the glittering of stars, chirping of birds, butterflies, mists, dew and other wonders of nature in different seasons.

His latest thematic works incorporating these ample ingredients and their useful interactions/ interrelations/ associations always generate positive energy and visual pleasure. Being lucid and transparent, they always share a dialogue with the viewers due to their unique  compositional perspectives duly supplemented by apt colours and their harmony in the respective arenas.

Zakir Husain Tanha –

He hails from Solapur and had his art education at Solapur and Mumbai. Then he participated in many art exhibitions in leading art galleries all over the world. His thematic work  was always appreciated by art lovers and collectors in Karnataka, Odisha, Kerala, New York, USA, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Dubai, Netherland, Iran, etc He is a proud recipient of several awards and appreciations for his thematic presentations in art galleries , art camps, workshops, demonstrations, special thematic presentations etc. He has been duly honoured by art fraternity in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Switzerland and France, Germany, Singapore, and WTC Dubai etc. His work is his unique identity and is known in the present art world as its creator.

He often deals with complex contemporary issues and his recent series ’Bint-e-Hawwa’ deals with one of the contemporary issues about the importance of female in a society. Working in Acrylic colours on canvas with a free creative mind, his works illustrate his day to day experiences, environment, social issues and nature, science etc His works mainly travel between many art movements like surrealism, realism, abstraction etc in an artistic manner. He has highlighted superb human quantities like mercy, affection, attachment, affinity, innocence, kindness, love etc in a woman in apt perspectives and arenas of his works and also a symbol of knowledge, beauty, freshness, enthusiasm, colours, energy etc that enhance  the emotional aspect of any woman. His thematic works are very perceptive and unique as well as aesthetic.

Ram Kumbhar –

Born in a family of Kumbhar as in a small village, he developed an attachment with clay and pottery since childhood. Later on, he had his art education at Sir J. J. school of Arts, Mumbai in sculptures. His basic instincts during the childhood stay in native place in the village were duly supplemented by advanced techniques and skills learnt & practised afterwards. He has worked in many media like brass, steel, fiber, glass, copper, metal etc. He has showcased his work in many art exhibitions in leading art galleries and got good public response from the present art fraternity. He is a proud recipient of many awards from leading art promotional institutions and his works are in collection of many reputable art collectors.

His works are the unique identity of the creative instincts and skills in him and he is known as a creator of this work in the present art world. His latest series of water bubbles, balloons, series of bubbles etc exemplify the creative endeavours made in S S & MS, Metal, Brass & SS   fibre etc. They denote the life experiences on a regular basis and render ample joy, pleasure, curiosity, happiness etc to all viewers due to their compositions and supreme visual perspectives in the apt arenas of fine arts. His bubble series & other series being eloquent and transparent always share dialogue with the viewers leading to their joy and good appreciation.

Chennai based artist Sandhya Manne creates oil paintings and intricate Zentangle ink drawings. She is India’s first Certified Zentangle Teacher, she has shared her knowledge and expertise, teaching Zentangle at Art centers and Community colleges in the USA before relocating to Chennai. She advocates Zentangle for mindfulness by offering regular corporate sessions, private and monthly group Zentangle workshops at her studio, as well as through engaging online courses touching the lives of aspiring artists both near and far.

The heart of my artistic theme for this collection is the ethereal beauty of flowers. Each bloom encapsulates profound symbolism, representing concepts from love and beauty to growth and resilience. Flowers bloom as a constant reminder of the cyclic nature of life, the fleeting beauty of existence, and the enduring essence of the human experience.

Oil paintings serve as the cornerstone of my artistic expression, enabling me to capture the elegance and beauty of flowers. The rich, luscious pigments of oil paints allow me to achieve depth and luminosity, establishing an intimate connection with the subject. Interwoven seamlessly within the oil paintings is the captivating art of Zentangle collage. The rhythmic repetition of intricate patterns and motifs, intertwined with floral elements, fosters a dynamic dialogue between the structured and the organic, the intentional and the spontaneous. This infusion breathes life into each piece, suffusing serenity and engaging viewers to find solace, as though they are wandering through a secret garden of the mind.

Texture plays a pivotal role in my process, as I use cold wax for medium with a palette knife to sculpt tactile surfaces on canvas. The interplay of light and shadow adds dimensions to my floral compositions, while the textural elements become a metaphor for the complexities and layers of emotions that flowers evoke, serving as a reminder of the depth within ourselves.

My artistic journey is an ever-evolving expedition of self-discovery —a symphony of colors, textures, and motifs resonating with the human soul. Through the dynamic interplay of Zentangle collage over the oil paintings, and the enduring theme of flowers, I aim to create a captivating visual experience that celebrates the beauty of life, the complexity of emotions, and the serenity of mindfulness. I invite viewers to immerse themselves in my collection, “Blossoms in Bloom: A Floral Fantasy,” and to wander through the secret garden of the mind.

The show was inaugurated on 22nd August 2023 by Shri. Prabhakar Kolte(Eminent Artist) in presence of Eminent Art Historian & Curator Mr. JohnyML (Guest of Honour) and other art collectors, patrons / connoisseurs and art promoters etc.

Shanmukh Rao Tamada aka Shanmukh Tamada hails from Vishakhapatanam and was trained under the famous sculptor, Ravinder Reddy. After his education in art at the Fine Arts College at Vizhag, Tamada came to Delhi to set up his studio and ever since he has been participating in group shows in Delhi and elsewhere. Recently he had had a successful solo exhibition titled ‘Autobiography of a Visual Mechanic’ curated by JohnyML at Bharat Art Space Gallery, Gurugram.

What makes Tamada different from his contemporaries is the choice of the medium; his favorite medium is industrially made foils. Multi-colored foils are used with dexterous coats of acrylic paints on canvases and Tamada works on them like an action painter in order to create psychedelic landscapes and images that keep changing shapes in the eyes of the beholder depending on the distance that the viewer takes from the painting.

Light and distance play a great role in Tamada’s paintings for the surfaces are created by multiple layers of foils. The deliberation in foil application is limited to the creation of surfaces and once the action starts he is a possessed man. He acts on his canvases till he gets the desired effect. According to him foils are industrial products that are flimsy and enduring alike.

“Looking at the foils I realized that they are like life; shiny, glittering, tough and so brittle. You need strength to break it at the same time a sharp object to could sear through it. I started off with the foils on an experimental basis almost a decade back and now that has become the most comfortable medium for me,” says Tamada.

“In Tamada’s works the precariousness is not what the result that he looks for. Instead, he likes to reveal the possibilities of a space that is at once light and heavy by virtue of the material and the method. Knowing that the works of art are created by the extremely thin and feather-light foils, the viewer feels the lightness of the painterly surface; this feeling is added by the fact that no heavy images are created by the artist on the canvases. They are light. But they look heavy as a whole because the viewer may feel incapacitated in discerning the totality of the images that glitter and fade, depending on the ken of approach. The painterly surfaces that Tamada creates are alluring and enticing, exactly the way the sharpest knives and the softest silks are. The latter two impart a feeling of anxiety mixed with pleasure; something that could be connected with speed and hormonal high,” writes Johny ML in the catalogue essay written for ‘Pleasurable Anxieties’.

Wild Strokes – A Group Show By Romartika

This show is curated by ROMARTIKA ART DECODED.

A group show of paintings by twenty artists is being held at Ahmedabad ni Gufa between 11th to 16^th July ’23.

As per the usual Romartika mission, most of the artworks on display at the show are

beyond any existing ‘-ism’ or convention. Mostly by emerging artists, the visual treat represents newness.

On 11th July afternoon, the show has been inaugurated by Art Historian Dipak Kannal, Renowned artist

Prakash Ambegaonkar, Founder of Eminent Art Gallery Abid Husain as well as Art Collector Kapil Sharma.

Guest artist Prakash Ambegaonkar’s paitings depict the universal ironies of human life in today’s world. Artist Shaikh Ahsan’s paintings are a curious blend of classical calligraphy and abstract expression.

Artist Kranti Desai’s abstracts depict a mystic spirit on canvas.

Devayani Thakre’s series of canvases depict the beauty and the struggle of gaining motherhood.

Show is on till 26 th June at Jehangir art gallery, Auditorium Hall, Mumbai.

The hues and peculiarities of the beauty of nature in vivid seasons, wonders of nature, realms of life, landscapes, cityscapes, historical monuments and traditional heritage of Indian culture and its various vignettes, sensitive mindscapes and the emotions in the human minds in apt arena and environment along with the desired visual textural effects and finesses created by the participating artists will be displayed in this exhibition.

Susheel Martin Foundation (SMF) is a Nireekshana School and Day care for intellectually challenged children from urban slums in Bangalore. They work to empower the intellectually challenged children with education, hygienic care and vocational skills and thereby integrate them into a normal lifestyle in the society. They have organised this show with an aim to promote such activity and thereby do the promotion for the artists and their artwork in different mediums and styles in the present art world.

A part of sales proceeds from the artwork in this exhibition will be generously used by the foundation for noble social causes on a charitable basis.

Dignity of Love 

A well known contemporary artist Shirish Mitbawkar will showcase his work in a solo art exhibition in hall no 1, Jehangir Art Gallery, M.G. Road, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai 400001 from 16th to 22nd May 2023 between 11 am to 7 pm. It will reveal his typical artistic perceptions about the dignity of love and its relevance / sanctity in the present materialistic world.

Shirish Mitbawkar had his art education upto G.D. (Arts) Drawing & Painting followed by Art Master’s diploma in which he stood 1st in order of merit in Maharashtra. Then he worked as Professor of fine arts in L.S. Raheja School of Arts, Bandra Mumbai from where he retired as a the head of department of the fine arts.  He has participated in several solo and group art shows in leading art galleries in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi etc as well as workshops and art camps at Kolhapur, Pune, Nasik, Mumbai etc. He is a proud recipient of many awards and prizes from prestigious promotional institution of national and international reputations.  He has received good public response and appreciations from the present art world for his presentations in these art galleries and his works are in collection of several art collectors and art promotional institutions. He has successfully handled several significant responsibilities and thereby rendered his yeoman services for the propagation of visual fine arts.

The present series highlights his artistic perception and innovative visual perspectives of the Dignity of Love” and their relevance / sanctity in the present era of modernism and neo standards of culture and heritage. Choosing Krishna as the main iconic muses and motifs for emotional affinity/attachment and sentimental rhythmic harmony of numerous feelings, he has aesthetically and artistically adorned his thematic works with the ethnic hues and ecstasy of eternal love between these omnipresent lover in his typical style of visual expressions. He has made optimum hues of several iconic motifs like Horses, bulls, conches, Lotus flowers, cows and calves, peacock feathers, flute, weapons like Gada and Chakra etc in apt arena and perspectives of his work to justify their relevance and sanctity in human life. His works are, in a way, the artistic ode to his conceptual perceptions and aesthetic standards of the visual glory eloquence, tranquility, eternal divinity and other related visual parameters of ecstasy and rhythmic harmony of the omnipresence of the divine love and its dignity.

Laxminarayan Sharma – He works in realistic style and has specialised in landscapes and portrait paintings. He has been actively working since last 40 years in art field. He has participated in about 75 solo and group art exhibitions and achieved Guinness Book of World record participation award & received many awards for his presentations. His works illustrate glimpses of Indian culture and tribal life / culture.

Mamta Sharma – She is a contemporary creative artist. She had her art education in Raheja School of Arts, Mumbai and Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai.  She is a proud recipient of  prestigious awards as well as achieved Guinness Book of World record participation award,

She has actively participated in about 50 solo and group art exhibitions.  She works in  style and has been obsessed by love for nature and musical instruments. Her works prominently display iconic motifs based on nature, vivid emotions in human mind and rhythm of music in an expressive style.

Rupesh Patil – He is a professional fine artist and has showcased his thematic works in several solo and group art exhibitions all over the globe. A proud recipient of many national and international awards including Prafulla Dahanukar national award, he has been obsessed by Indian Culture, heritage and beauty of nature. He has done several custom made artworks and specialises in water colours / pastels.  His works on Indian culture & religions have been widely applauded by the art world.

Kumar Gaikwad – His works reflect Indian culture and its heritage. He strives to capture the essence of Indian culture and traditions through his art.  His works denote bright colours having thematic peculiarity and white backgrounds. His works are indicative of attractive colours and stylized forms in the unique stylish expressions.

Raju Autade – He works in Acrylic colours which mostly reveal a disciplined use of dots and vivid geometrical shapes. His works depict typical stylish presentation of various realms of life in an expressive style marked by unique iconic motifs and their colourful hues.

 Kalpana Arya – Her works denote simplicity and memoirs of old walls, narrow lanes and by lanes in rural areas and lifestyle of the folk in that area. The works also depict the vignettes of vintage memories of her stay in that region. The works have a nostalgic visual perspective and denote apt colour combinations to suit the thematic peculiarity and relevance. Her cityscapes are very attractive and stylish.

Chetan Vaity – His sculptures in White marble showcase vivid realms of life in urban area and glimpses of historical traditions and heritage of Indian culture. His works e.g. Hourse and others indicate his thoughtful and innovative peculiarities to adorn the works with the desired visual effects in apt perspectives. His works are mostly the wonderful twists to the traditional forms as well as indicative of good craftsmanship.

Makarand Joshi – His works in Water colours are bright and attractive. They are stylish and innovative and indicate the keen observational ability and creative instincts prevalent in him.  The works have a totally different look having been adorned with the desired visual perspectives and parameters in apt arena. Good perspective and stylish presentation of the theme in an attractive form and perspective are the special features of the works.

This show was inaugurated on 17^th April 2023 by Chief Guest Mr. Vijay Achrekar(Eminent Artist & President of The Art Society of India, Mumbai), Special Guests Ms. Pallavi Sabnis(Founder Colaba Art & Joint Secretary of The Art Society of India, Mumbai), Mr. Manojkumar Sakale(Eminent Artist ,Mumbai),  in the presence Mr. Vishwanath Sable (Dean of Sir J.J. School of Art)  Deepak Naphade,  Mrs. Alka Ora and many others.

Since the early times, Indian culture has always given utmost importance to animals. Whether in temples carved sculptures, caves or even in literature animals were included. Thus were born fables, morals stories, folklores and so on.

When I think of animals, my heart reaches out to a childhood memory that has been etched in my mind. We were taught poetry in school, named Punyakoti. Punyakoti was the name of a cow, and her story revolved around truth and sacrifice.

As the story goes, she once promises to return to an old hungry tiger as a prey, after she has fed her young one. Despite her calf and siblings moaning and coaxing her not to return, she does so believing in her virtues. The tiger, moved by her integrity, salutes her and gives up his own life, while freeing himself of the curse he would have invoked for killing such an innocent and truthful cow.

The emotions of this particular poem have stayed with me since then and thus the picturesque scenes of cattle outside temples, the Nandi inside the temple and bullocks dressed up for special festivities have always enchanted me. These beautiful scenes in real time have inspired my current exhibition “SIDHHA” connoting the meaning pure.

Through this exhibition, I have manifested the importance of the cow and the Nandi in our great culture.

SIDHHA  Paintings Exhibition By Well-Known Artist Kudalayya Hiremath In Jehangir Art Gallery

Mumbai-based documentary photographer Padma Shri Sudharak Olwe’s Firefly, an exhibition of photographs, artefacts and performance, on ‘Lavani’ – a traditional dance form of Maharashtra opened at the Nine Fish Art Gallery in Byculla, Mumbai.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Vidya Balan, with attendees including celebrities, artists, journalists and curators alike, including Parvez Damania, Anup Jalota, Rupali Suri, Niharica Raizada, Vilas Shinde and Pablo Bartholomew among others.
The 45 photographs that are documented over 20 years by Sudharak Olwe attempt to capture the ‘lavanya’ (beauty), struggles and journey of the social lives of these folk artistes and look beyond the popular perception of the traditional dance form. “I want to share their art and life in my photos,” elaborated Sudharak, who still continues to document the Lavani artistes.
More about Sudharak Olwe, who has been marking a new global space for Indian photography, with exhibitions in Malmo (Sweden), Lisbon, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Washington, Dhaka, Mumbai and Delhi among others. Olwe is known for his extraordinary work capturing in both rural and urban communities, presenting tales of resilience, courage, and change. In 2005, Olwe was one of the four awardees for National Geographic’s “All Roads Photography Program: In 2016, he received the Padma Shri, one of highest civilian awards awarded by the Government of India.
In the current exhibition, Sudharak Olwe’s timeless frames pay a tribute to this traditional art form that has contributed tremendously to the development of Marathi folk theatre. Prominent Lavani traditional folk artistes from Solapur were honoured at the event, the Lavani artistes shared their stories through their energetic performance as well. The proceeds helped the education of children of Lavani dancers.
Along with the photographs by Sudharak Olwe, artefacts curated by Gourmoni Das are also on display.
For the uninitiated, ‘Lavani’ is a traditional dance form that originated in Maharashtra in the 18th and 19th centuries. Lavani is performed on public stage, and is a performative tradition practiced by a certain set of communities consisting of interactive gestures, and songs and noted for its biting dialogues often toned with socio-political satire; the dancers are always agile and attentive to the audience’s reactions.

About Aparna Deshpande 

A picture speaks a thousand words,’ goes a saying that Aparna Deshpande seems to prove absolutely right. A natural dancer with vivid imagination, Aparna, at a very young age, with limited scope for communication in a regular way, began to immerse in the world of colours that threw up enchanting visual stories. Supportive parents –Kalpana and D P Nerkar – identified her innate talent, at a very young age, and encouraged her to explore and experiment. Aparna, post her schooling, pursued a diploma course in interior designing and decoration from the noted L S Raheja College, Mumbai.

She practiced painting on various surfaces and played with Japanese papers in creating pop-up greeting cards by employing various permutations and combinations. Her journey into the world of art continued with cartoon illustrations, landscape and portrait paintings, she has now cocooned out of and into abstract and surrealism and is now making her own mark in these art forms. Comfortable with oils, acrylics, watercolours etc, Aparna finds her paintings to be the manifestations of her inner core and an expression of collective experience. Her paintings, at times, are projections of the unique feelings stored and imprinted in her heart. Lively bursts of passionate colours and bold strokes with delicate renditions in her paintings are a reflection of her unreserved, genial personality.

“God has infused Aparna with immense ability to speak through her paintings,” said celebrated cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar. “The almighty has shut one door but opened a vast roof of aesthetics and creative talent to manifest and spread joy.”

Jotiba Patil is a freelance artist and had his earlier solo exhibitions in reputed art galleries at Thane, Kolhapur and Mumbai. He has been actively working on the numerous details of Nature and their apt iconic motifs in various forms so as to incorporate them in his work. He has used his skill and palette knife technique to achieve good visual effects in his works to suit the thematic sanctity and relevance.

The present series depicts his endeavours on Nature and its numerous wonders in the form of treasures in different seasons and periods. These have mostly been achieved by him using Sap green, Cobalt Blue, Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, Crimson Red and other colours using their tonal harmony leading to visual resonance and equilibrium. He has also indicated hues of spirituality and the illusionary transcendental perceptions in order to adorn his works both artistically and aesthetically in the relevant perspectives of visual fine arts. He has used colour splashing technique through a skilful motif and apt perspectives using unique visual language of artistic expressions via the relevant iconic motifs and metaphors.

Shetall had her art education at L.S. Raheja School of Art, Mumbai followed by an advanced course in Arts at Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai.  She was a proud recipient of awards from Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai, Art Society of India Award and Camlin Art foundation Award in the initial phase of her career. The present series illustrates her unique perceptions in an artistic style about various facets of womanhood via the story of every woman in different roles and responsibilities shouldered by her in life in pictorial visual expressions. She has illustrated various characteristics and qualities that are usually associated with women in the life journey which is an experience of being strong and vulnerable at the same time.  The vivid works depict numerous ingredients and undercurrents that are normally associated with her role in life as a daughter, sister, wife and mother. The artistic presentation of her theme illustrates different feelings and sentimental mindscapes associated with womanhood in her life journey. She has endeavoured to depict women’s feelings, emotions, thoughts, her roles and vivid life experiences in a prominent way through her artwork. Being a woman, most of these experiences are via herself journey in different roles in life along with those observed and experienced by being associated/ involved in numerous activities around in various seasons and arenas in apt perspectives of visual arts. Her visual language of expressions is narrative and lucid as well as eloquent that easily shares a word with the viewer due to its simplicity and uniqueness.

संजुक्ता अरुण,पेशे से एक उम्दा पेंटर हैं। जो जीवन के पैमाने को अपने अनुभव के मापदंड से चित्रों के जरिये कैनवास पर खूबसूरती से उतारती हैं। यू कहे कि पृथ्वी उसका संग्रह है,वो बताती हैं कि जीवन कैसे लहरों की एक श्रृंखला है जिसे गले लगाया जाना है।

29 नवंबर से 5 दिसंबर तक नेहरू सेंटर में प्रदर्शन के लिए कैनवास पर कविताओं के संग्रह की झड़िया लगेंगी। चित्रों की बिक्री और नीलामी से जुटाई गई राशि का उपयोग कैंसर से पीड़ित बच्चों के इलाज के लिए किया जाएगा।

3 दिसंबर 2022 को कैंसर से पीड़ित 20 बच्चों के बैच के लिए एक विशेष उत्सव आयोजित किया जाएगा, जहाँ बच्चों को पेंटिंग करने और पेंटिंग के लिए अपने कौशल का प्रदर्शन करने का अवसर मिलेगा।  इसके बाद एक जादू शो होगा जहां उपहार और उपहारों की भरमार होगी।

“यह इन बच्चों के जीवन को रोशन करने के लिए एक छोटा सा प्रयास है। हम सभी को एक साथ मिलकर उनके जीवन को रोशन करना चाहिए। जब कोई बच्चा आशा की किरण देखता है, तो यह उन्हें नई आशा के साथ बीमारी से लड़ने में मदद करती है। हम यही चाहते हैं की वो इस जंग को जीतकर एक विजेता के रूप में जीवन को जिये।”

The earth is her muse. And Sanjukta Arun paints her ballads on the canvas.  Whether it be her series on the mighty  waves that define how life is a series of waves to be embraced and overcome by surfing through them, or the forests where we find solace seeing the tree remain a tree, Sanjukta walks her life’s paths unseen to the world hidden in the depth of her creations. It is those answers Sanjukta shares with the world.

Painted Ballads is a collection of poems on canvas on display at the Nehru Centre from Nov 29- Dec 5.

The funds raised through the sale and auction of the paintings will be utilised for the treatment of children suffering from cancer.

On December 3, a special celebration for a batch of 20 children suffering from cancer will be organised, where the children get to paint and showcase their skill for painting. It will be followed by a magic show where gifts and goodies galore. The artist has appealed to art lovers to come forward and support the bravehearts.

“This is merely a small gesture to brighten the lives of these children. We should all come together to brighten their lives. When a child sees a ray of hope, it helps them fight the disease with renewed hope. That is all we seek — to see them emerge winners.”

Cancer pushes both the patients and their families into trauma due to the high expenditure, pain and pressure. Mumbai’s Biggest National Level Art Exhibition

A national level group art event Artival 2022 is being held at Expo Centre, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai on 11^th, 12^th and 13^th Nov., 2022. It will showcase about 3000 artworks created by 300 artists from various regions of our country under one roof. The vivid participating artists are from different regions of the country having diverse backgrounds and culture. It is the intense urge of these artists to display their artworks alongwith those of master artists on a common platform in order to reach the prospective art collectors.

मुंबई २०२२ : मुंबई हे देशातील सांस्कृतिक केंद्र असून कला महोत्सव, कला दालने, वस्तुसंग्रहालये हे या शहरातील जीवनशैलीचा अविभाज्य घटक आहेत. मुंबईत कला महोत्सव  कोरोना पूर्व काळापासून  लोकप्रिय असून या माध्यमातून उदयोन्मुख कालाकारांना प्रसिद्धी मिळते आणि त्यांना या क्षेत्रातील प्रस्थापितांसोबत एकाच व्यासपीठावर आपली कला सादर करण्याची संधी मिळते. मुंबई आर्ट फेअरच्या तिसऱ्या  पर्वात ‘‘मूर्त -अमूर्तकला संगम’ या मध्यवर्ती संकल्पनेवर आधारित कला प्रदर्शन आयोजित करण्यात आले आहे. या प्रदर्शनामध्ये प्रस्थापित कलाकारांपासून ते उदयोन्मुख कलाकारांपर्यंत, वय किंवा पात्रतेचे कोणतेही बंधन न ठेवता आणि लडाख ते कन्याकुमारीपर्यंतच्या कलाकारांच्याकलाकृती या प्रदर्शनात पाहायला मिळणार आहेत. या वर्षीच्या रंगोत्सवात ३५० कलाकार एकत्र येणार आहेत आणि देशभरातील वैविध्यपूर्ण चित्रांचे प्रदर्शन भरविण्यात येणार आहे. निसर्गचित्रे, व्यक्तीचित्रे, अॅबस्ट्रॅक्ट, वास्तवदर्शी चित्रे, शहरचित्रे, धार्मिक चित्रांपासून ते वैयक्तिक अनुभूतींपर्यंत विविध शैली व विषयांवरील चित्रे त्यांच्यात सखोल दडलेल्या अर्थासह येथे पाहता येणार आहेत. नेहरू सेंटरमध्ये २८ ते  ३० ऑक्टोबरदरम्यान हे प्रदर्शन भरविण्यात आले आहे.

Mumbai Art Fair, a contemporary Art fair for independent artists is making a grand comeback in the Art Market after two years of pandemic with 350 artists exhibiting in 130 air-conditioned booths at Nehru Centre. Mumbai Art Fair is designed specially for independent artists who look for affordable options to exhibit their artworks in the metro cities and reach to the wider arts audience and potential art buyers.

More than 3500 paintings in various mediums such as oils, acrylics, water colour, pastels, charcoal with sculptures in stone, metal, and photographs by over 350 talented artists, few of them young, upcoming, mid-career as well as established are selected for presentation in this edition of Mumbai Art Fair. The diverse mix of landscapes, abstracts, figurative art and spiritual paintings, semi-nudes, rural and pastoral scenes, cityscapes and paintings on varied subjects  in myriad styles and numerous soft, bright and rustic hues are displayed at MAF, at the ground floor, discovery of India building, Nehru Centre from 28 to 30 Oct 2022.

Mumbai Art Fair (MAF) is bringing wide variety of ‘art choices’ in a very economical budget not only for seasoned buyers, but for budding art lovers. Art scene is changing slowly in India and art is no longer reserved just for high-end corporate and art collectors but today’s new millennials too started visiting art exhibitions to look for artworks to create inspiring and soothing ambiance around their living spaces.

This year MAF attracted diverse participation by many new faces among the regular participants working in different styles broaching plethora of subjects. In this year, regular names in the art fair circuit like Sayed Zuber Baker, Nishi Sharma, Anjali Prabhakar, Antra Shrivastava, Niyati Amlani, Neha Thackeray, Vineet Kaur, Beena Surana, Jalpa Patel, Vishal Sabley, R Soloman, S Vinitkumar, Sriparna Sinha, Soumen Kar, Om Tadkar, Naishita Reddy, Alpa Mistry, Rajitha, Manoj Swain, Rahat Kazmi, Prakash Bal Joshi, Prithvi Soni and others are set to mesmerized viewers by their varied creative output, rich in aesthetic content.

The works of Janhvi Bhide, Moshe Dayan, Praveen Naresh, Sachita Aditi, Yashvi Goyal, Dileep Kosode, Gursimaran Kaur, Ishita Malpani, Jenaifer Daruwalla, Kailas Kale, Mona Jain, Nakesha Bhosle, Neha Ruia are the kind of simplifications of reality in which artists have eliminated the details from recognisable objects leaving only the essence or some degree of recognisable form, representing things that aren’t visual, such as emotion, sound, or spiritual experience.  The artworks of Neha Thackeray, Pooja Ray, Rachana Miglani, Rahat Kazmi, Rajat Kumar, Rishail, Sateesh Dingankar, Shehbaaz Khan, Shruti Solanki, Suryakant Rajapkar and Vinitkumar lingers on the border of abstraction and semi-abstraction.

Lord Ganesha, the symbol of strength and power is portrayed by Chandrika Paurana, Madhuri Devlikar, Manoj Swain, Shivani Banerjee, and Sona Kapur, in their distinct style whereas artist Banani Kundu, Bhoomika Detroja, Hansa Bhatt, Jeenu Madan, Kinjal Gehlot, Prachi Selot Samota, Shubhangi Mehta, Sreenath Thampi, Suvarna Chawande, Vidya Shivramkrishnan and Yogita Kogle highlights creative life force through the depiction of their favourite divinities and faiths in the lines, colours and forms. Artist Naishita Reddy, Dollar Mandal, Gaurav Dagar, Ramesh Kumar, Santosh Lanjekar and Suraj Shukla are presenting realistic figurations with vibrant inventiveness through their works displayed at Mumbai Art Fair.

Akansha Punjabi, Jagadish Ray, Lata Malani, Shruti Srivastava, Darshan Mahajan, Archana Sharma, Neha Agrawal, Niyati Amlani, Pratibha Goel, Seema Oza, Shalini Gupta, Sonal Salekar, Sushma Oza, Vineet Kaur exhibiting at MAF have dealt with distinct colour to illustrate their visual ideas in ‘figurative’ genre, sometime in simple forms but making complex reading, creating strong narrative content.

The paintings of artist Anindita Biswas Roy, Basudeb Pradhan, Jayashree Gole, Rahul Naskar, Rakesh Sonkusare, Sriparna Sinha, Mousumi Sircar will make the viewer feel that they are right the middle of their painting; such is the mesmerising treatment given by these talented artists to their nature-scapes that viewer feel as though they can breathe the very air of the painting and reach out and touch the landscape as if it is real. The slightly different variant of abstract landscapes, cityscapes, architectural grandiose,  and flower-scape paintings by Atul Bhalerao, Chetan Bhosle, Padmini Bhatia, Rinni Patel, Sandeep Parkhie, Vittal Moppidy, Vyoma Parikh, K B Shikhare, R Soloman,  Radhika Bawa, Ravi Waybhat, Deepal Bhat, Hena Prasun, Shirish Ambekar, Anupama Thakur, Anuradha Bhalla, Ashdeep Babra, Diptina Kothari, Nidhi Sharma, Poonam Khanvilkar, Raksha Jesrani, Rohini Lokhande, Jasjit Sidhu and Neena Mehrok are the added attraction in the Mumbai Art Fair for the viewers.

The inspiring force behind the works by B Meghmala, Deepak Mukherjee, Monalisa Parikh, Namrita Nagra, Paridhi Jain, Sayali Nagarkar, Sudha Ramkrishnan, Vikram Bhatti, Vinayak Nigam and Vishal Sabley is their belief and faith that prompted them to create an impressive and wondrous works of art which generates mystical aura and spiritual vibrations around them. The amount of detailing in sculptures by Devel Sharma, Pankaj Gadakh, Soumen Kar, and Sujit Kumar Mukhopadhyay

is simply phenomenal and these sculptures are surely going to be an extra attraction in the art fair.

The Baroque animal painting tradition originated around seventeenth century in the western art world have found many followers across the world who portray animals, sometime using landscape as the background. Artist Alpana Dangi, Anna Kurian, Dipti Kumar, Rushan Shah and Shankar Rajput seems to be mesmerised by the beauty and power of different animals such as horses, bulls, elephants and stags. The other artists who got fascinated by wildlife are Haripriya Kulkarni, Jalpa Patel, Poonam Juvale, Praveena Parepalli and Saket Arbhi; their artworks are the visual treat for wild-life lovers visiting art fair. Viewers can select beautiful paintings from a charming variety of flying bird paintings executed dexterously by Anrita Basu, Bhaduri Shah Baria, Sanjivanee Bhoir and Shankar Pamarthy.

Richness and depth can be achieved in the subtle manipulation of light and shadow without colour. A world without colour is nonetheless rich in texture as the artist Akshata Shetty, Beena Surana, Chaitali Bareja Sharma, Ena Tondon, Insiya Patrawala, Kanishkar Mehra, Khurram Amir, Krish Nandi, Krupali Gondhalekar, Madhavi Bhaskar, Nikhil Usare, Raj Kumar, Rupali Mhatre and Vijay Kumawat explore a variety of themes and styles in a monochromatic pallet. The common thread that binds the works of Christina Ravi, Deepa Siddharth, Doyel Sinha, Kirthi Shetty, Kumaraswami B, Manju Das, Alpa Mistry, Namrata Bagwe, Priyanka Singh, Samridhi Sharma, Swarnajeet Kaur and Tara Isa is their female protagonists presented in various context and situations.

The use of geometric forms to create rhythmic patterns and fluid forms in the works of Annarapu Narendra, Jyoti Sharma, Mohit Jangid, Nirja Shah, Prachi Gala, Princy Jain, Uchit Turakhia and Vaishali Chanda is an experiment in illusion art that trick the eye and mind to perceive images different than what they are on the pictorial surface. The assemblage by Rohan Kunthale, Serigraph by Trishna Bhati and woodcuts by three generation of artists in Dubey family, black & white photograph by Sangram Naik, and surreal compositions by Aditi Khandelwal, Kaushal Parikh, Kunwar S S Punwar, Madhu Kuruva, Naveena Ganjoo and Subarna Bagchi compels the viewer to take a second look at them. Female nudes when done by female artist acquire the different dimension; this is demonstrated in the works of Meenakshi Shukla and Payal Moni.

Portraits displayed in the Mumbai Art Fair by Nilima Dani and Vineet Kaur and stylised works by B Narahari, Kashiram Pinjare and Saurabh Dhingare are the specimen of matured handling of subject with witty use of colour composition. Plethora of artworks by artist Anita Mukherjee, Atma Shyam, Bharati Hingane, Devvrat Singh Sengar, Divya Menon, Ramashankar Mishra, Shankar Sharma, Kanan Khant, Karishma Surve, Manjusha Kanade, Meena Raghavan, Navin Agarwal, Nikita Dani, Pinal Panchal, Rubina Hasan, Shalaka Patil, Shruti Kasana, Soni Singh, Sreenivasa Ram and Supriya Kaluskar are the form of tradition art or at least inspired by our traditional arts like Pichwai, Warli Art, Gond Art, Mughal style, and miniature art styles. Artists exhibiting in the Mumbai Art Fair Hiya Juthani, Nayana Patel, Nilesh Upadhyay, Pavani Nagpal, Praveen Kaveri, Purvi Lohana, Rhea Narkar, Seema Oza, and Shivani Patidar approach reality through the use of seemingly abstract looking colour patches and shades to create something as comprehensible as if it is real but still has dreamy quality to it akin to pseudo realism.

The enchantingly luminous water colour pieces by Gitanjali Shah, Mukta Kadam, Niyati Amlani and Shyam Karri combines the reflection of the white paper along with its texture exploiting the translucent tenderness of watercolour; the effect is wistful! Though Mukta Kadam do not fall in the temptation of using water colour’s qualities to boost its visual appeal but takes her artworks much more beyond merely what is overtly visible; they need multiple readings to dig deeper in her visual connotations. Artists Anjali Prabhakar, Antra Shrivastava, Bandana Kumari, Bhamini Sarda, Rajitha, Eshmeet Thapar, Jyoti Singh, Medha Nerurkar, Neerja Kujur, Preeti Shaw, Priya Kataria, Purnima Walunj, Riya Nahata, Sayed Bakar and Vinod Venkapalli visually communicate and symbolize fundamental truths of their subjects through the symbolic compositions.

Mumbai art fair is a sort of dawn for the independent artists; it forms a hub, a burgeoning estuary for the creative alignments of every kind; do come and be part of it in some way or the other. After the long pandemic, art fair works as a crucible of hyperactivity and generates enough energy to make a difference in the current art market.
